This paper proposes an innovative (and geological information) direction of the lithological investigations as a natural continuation of the gradual transition geology to the category of exact science. Basics of transition, based on use of visual frames to represent lithological objects as elements of natural systems by means of artificial intelligence is described.

Solving of the problems of lithology by definition hierarchy, subordination relationship non-uniformly scaled objects shown in the example of the problems of stratigraphy and tectonics. It is shown that a natural intermediate stage in the representation of geological knowledge by means of visual frames is creation of information-stratigraphic profiles of zones and parts of the region, as shown by the example of the North side and the North Nearside Zone of Dnieper-Donets Depression. Authors believe that framing knowledge representation allows lithology to rise to the new level investigations of rock associations and their spatial interrelation, and transfer to a planned mapping of natural reservoirs such as the association hydrocarbons mining receptacles, as within individual fields and areas, and the large areas of petroliferous regions.
